Thinking Machines Lab

Berman introduces the company and its announced goals.

Murati’s announcement
SLIDE 1 / 1Murati’s announcementThe launch post lists the lab’s stated goals.

Former OpenAI CTO Mira Murati has announced a new company, Thinking Machines Lab. In this February 2025 short, I review what she and the company said at launch.

Murati describes three goals: helping people adapt AI to their needs, building foundations for more capable systems and supporting open science. These are the lab’s stated ambitions, not evidence that particular products have already been delivered.

02

Team and next steps

He mentions the team and says product details remain unclear at the time.

The announcement describes a team with experience across projects including ChatGPT, Character.AI, PyTorch and Mistral. I say it is not yet clear exactly what the company will build and deliver; that reflects what was known in the video at the time.
