SUMMARY

In 30 seconds

Matthew Berman reacts to Anthropic's report that Claude Mythos Preview found many serious vulnerabilities and argues that AI has transformed software security. He speculates about the power of Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei; the video does not establish that the model can break arbitrary software on demand.

  1. 1Reported vulnerabilitiesBerman cites thousands of serious findings and raises concern about software used in critical sectors.
  2. 2Software and AIHe argues that AI has already transformed software, including security research.
  3. 3Concentrated powerHe asks whether the technology gives Anthropic's CEO extraordinary power, using a sweeping claim that the video does not prove.

Takeaways

  1. Anthropic reports that Mythos Preview found many potential security vulnerabilities in software.
  2. Reported vulnerability counts and severity assessments require human validation and should not be equated with confirmed breaches of every critical system.
  3. Berman's claim that one person could break any software is a rhetorical assessment, not a demonstrated capability.

A security warning

Berman reacts to reported Mythos vulnerability findings and their possible relevance to critical systems. The findings are not proof that every such system has been breached.

Anthropic says Claude Mythos Preview has found thousands of serious potential vulnerabilities, and I worry about software underlying nuclear facilities, healthcare and financial systems. The company's [research report](https://www.anthropic.com/research/mythos-preview) describes findings in software and a process of validation and coordinated disclosure; the count and sector references do not show that every specific critical system was breached or that every candidate has been independently confirmed.

Everything runs on software, and I think AI has already transformed software and security. That gives Anthropic considerable power, in my view. Does this make Dario Amodei the most powerful person on Earth? I describe him as able to break any piece of software at a snap of his fingers, but that is a rhetorical extrapolation, not a capability established by the report.
