Sora and OpenAI's product focus

After a humorous generated-video example, Berman discusses Sora's planned shutdown. He wonders whether OpenAI's focus will affect its hardware project.

A humorous clip opens with race commentary: a figure described as Jesus runs across the water and reaches the wall, prompting a joke about a world record.

Sora went viral as a video-generation model, and OpenAI built a social app around it. I found it very popular in the first few weeks, but then I personally stopped using it.

I say OpenAI applications CEO Fidji Simo has described discontinuing products outside the company's core focus, with greater emphasis on enterprise and coding. I say Sora is being discontinued and wonder if other products could be next, including the hardware project associated with Jony Ive's design company. That question is my speculation. OpenAI subsequently confirmed that Sora's web and app experiences ended on April 26, 2026.
