Recruiting work

Kristen introduces her role and describes executing recruiting initiatives. Her team also collaborates on new ways to attract talent and works with other departments.

I’m Kristen, and I work in recruiting in the New York office. I joined Jane Street in 2019. I spend part of my day executing recruiting initiatives such as events and programs, and another part collaborating with colleagues on new ideas for attracting talent.

We regularly connect with teams outside recruiting, including trading and technology. Exchanging insights helps us stay aligned with each team’s goals and needs.

02

Culture and collaboration

Kristen values an environment where people share ideas and listen to one another regardless of background or tenure. She also appreciates the willingness to try new approaches.

What stands out about the culture is that we are encouraged both to share our own opinions and to listen to others. Regardless of tenure, position or background, we can all learn from one another.

I enjoy the constant collaboration within recruiting and with people in other areas. I also appreciate that we look for ways to innovate and are not afraid to try something new.

Advice for new hires

Kristen encourages newcomers to observe, learn and meet colleagues. She also reminds them that their ideas matter.

My advice to a new hire is to keep your eyes and ears open: there is a lot to learn from your colleagues. Go to events and talks, perhaps join a social Slack channel, and get to know the people around you. Also, do not be afraid to speak up—you were hired for your ideas.
