Food service at Jane Street

Michael introduces his role as global food lead in New York. He describes daily food service and work on the firm’s growth.

I’m Michael, the global food lead in the New York office, and I joined Jane Street in 2019. Food service covers many different things. My day usually starts early, making sure employees have breakfast, the juice bar is stocked and the pantries look good.

I also collaborate with teams across the firm on design and build projects and on the company’s expansion and growth. One of the exciting things about working here is that no day looks quite like another, so you are always kept on your toes.

02

Global teams and collaboration

Michael values working with food service teams across the firm’s offices. He says the open-plan office encourages departments to collaborate.

One of the best parts of my job is interacting with food service teams across our regional offices and feeling part of the company’s growth. That includes New York, London, Amsterdam, Singapore and Hong Kong.

I love the openness you feel when you walk into the office. Food service works with many departments every day, and the open-plan layout encourages collaboration across teams.

03

Advice for joining the team

Michael advises prospective colleagues to be open-minded and expect the unexpected. He values listening, collaboration and a love of food over a mandatory food service background.

My advice to someone considering the food service team is to be open-minded, expect the unexpected each day and have fun. You do not necessarily need a food service background; we can teach you when you arrive. Being a good listener, collaborating well and really loving food are valuable qualities.
