Shira Lazar shares that creator Lamarr Wilson, whom she admired, has died. She says his death by suicide had been publicly reported and remembers him as friendly, loving, positive, intelligent and skilled at his work.

Lazar recalls Wilson’s early technology, gadget and video game reviews on YouTube and his time as a What’s Trending co-host around 2011 to 2013. As their work developed separately, she says, they stayed connected and enjoyed catching up at events.

She recalls a long conversation at a Linktree event in July about life, aging in the creator industry and their physical and mental health. She says they supported each other’s work from afar and remembers later sending him a creator mental health survey.

Lazar describes her grief and wishes she had checked in more, while acknowledging that people cannot know everything another person is experiencing. She encourages viewers to reach out to friends they have not heard from, including those who usually seem upbeat.

Checking in and building community

She encourages kindness and checking in with others. She discusses creator isolation and her mental health work.

She connects the loss to her work with Creators for Mental Health. Although creators can have large online communities, she says, many work and live alone, which can feel isolating when they are in pain.

Lazar says she is sitting with her grief and asks viewers not to take one another for granted and to be kind.
