ZUSAMMENFASSUNG

In 30 Sekunden

Matthew Berman describes a virtual fruit fly shown in a driving simulator, a rhythm-game scene, and a Minecraft-like environment. He connects the clips to a reported fruit-fly brain map and speculates about simulating larger brains. The footage depicts virtual environments, not a real fly driving or playing games. The short does not establish how the scenes are controlled or whether a biologically faithful brain simulation performs the tasks.

  1. 1A reported brain mapBerman refers to a reported fruit-fly brain map. Mapping connections does not by itself demonstrate a complete functional simulation.
  2. 2Driving and parkingA virtual fly appears in a simulated car; Berman describes collisions and a slow parallel-parking attempt. The clip does not verify the control mechanism.
  3. 3Game scenesThe video shows a fly in a rhythm-game scene and a block-based virtual environment, without establishing what controls the actions.
  4. 4Larger simulationsBerman speculates about simulating larger animal brains and eventually humans; these are possibilities, not demonstrated outcomes.

Das Wichtigste

  1. The driving and gaming scenes show a simulated fly in virtual environments.
  2. Berman describes the virtual car crashing and later attempting to parallel park.
  3. The clip does not establish whether a fruit-fly brain simulation controls the displayed actions.
  4. A map of brain connections and a working, behaviorally faithful simulation are distinct claims.
  5. Future simulations of larger animal or human brains are presented as speculation.

A virtual fly at the wheel

Berman introduces a virtual driving clip and refers to a fruit-fly brain map. He describes crashes and a parallel-parking attempt.

A fly in a virtual car
FOLIE 1 / 4A fly in a virtual carThe scene depicts a simulated fly at a steering wheel; it does not demonstrate a real insect driving.

A video shows a simulated fruit fly in a virtual car. I connect it to a reported fruit-fly brain map and describe the fly as learning to drive. These scenes are simulations, not footage of a real insect driving; the short does not explain or independently establish whether a biologically faithful fly-brain model controls the car.

Virtual parallel-parking scene
FOLIE 2 / 4Virtual parallel-parking sceneBerman describes the simulated vehicle’s parking attempt, but the footage does not establish its control mechanism.

In the driving scene, the virtual fly is shown near the steering wheel, while the car encounters other vehicles. I call it a terrible driver and then show a slow parallel-parking attempt that I say succeeds. The footage alone does not verify how the controller was trained or how reliably it parks.

Games and future speculation

Further clips place a virtual fly in game-like environments. Berman wonders whether larger brains could eventually be simulated.

A fly in a rhythm-game scene
FOLIE 3 / 4A fly in a rhythm-game sceneThe clip presents a game-like virtual demonstration without details of how the actions are controlled.
A fly in a block-based virtual space
FOLIE 4 / 4A fly in a block-based virtual spaceA simulated fly appears in a digital environment, which Berman compares with Minecraft.

Another scene shows a simulated fly in a Beat Saber-like rhythm game, followed by a block-based environment that I describe as Minecraft. I find the possibilities exciting. The short does not establish that the same biologically faithful model controls the actions across these scenes.

I wonder whether we will eventually simulate increasing numbers of neurons, perhaps reaching a cat, dog, monkey, or even a human, and what that might mean for the idea that everything is a simulation. Those are speculative questions about the future. A map of neural connections is not, on its own, proof of a complete functioning brain simulation.
