The suspension and its effect

Berman reads Anthropic’s statement about the directive and describes his interrupted agents. Anthropic characterized the situation as a misunderstanding.

Anthropic announces the suspension
DIAPOSITIVE 1 / 1Anthropic announces the suspensionThe post explains the directive and the company’s decision to disable both models for customers.

Fable 5 is gone for now. According to [Anthropic’s June 12 statement](https://www.anthropic.com/news/fable-mythos-access), the US government issued an export-control directive requiring suspension of access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by foreign nationals, including those within the United States. Anthropic said it therefore disabled both models for all customers to comply; other Claude models were unaffected.

I had ten agents running on Fable 5 when the announcement appeared, and they all stopped. Anthropic said it believed the situation was a misunderstanding. This was its assessment of the dispute, not an established finding about the government’s reasons.

Update after the video: Anthropic [announced on June 30](https://www.anthropic.com/news/redeploying-fable-5) that the controls had been lifted and that Fable 5 would return globally starting July 1, 2026. Mythos 5 was restored separately to selected approved organizations; the original suspension should not be read as a permanent shutdown.
