RÉSUMÉ

En 30 secondes

In this February 2026 short, Matthew Berman points to rising memory prices and worries that GPU prices could climb further. He discusses Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang’s comments about potentially bringing back older cards; the suggestion was noncommittal, not an announced production plan.

  1. 1Price pressureBerman discusses rising prices and predicts the RTX 5090 could reach $5,000.
  2. 2Memory chartThe chart shows DDR4 desktop RAM prices and does not directly measure graphics memory prices.
  3. 3Older generationsHuang entertained the possibility of older GPUs at CES; he did not announce a production plan.

À retenir

  1. Berman’s $5,000 RTX 5090 figure is a prediction, not an established universal price.
  2. The displayed chart tracks a DDR4 desktop memory kit, not the GDDR7 memory used by an RTX 5090.
  3. Huang described older GPUs as a possibility, not a confirmed Nvidia product decision.

GPU and memory prices

Berman describes GPU price pressure and shows a memory-price chart. His future price figure is a prediction.

GPU prices have been rising, and I worry that some cards could double or triple in price. I suggest the RTX 5090 might reach $5,000, but that is a prediction about possible future prices, not a confirmed price across all sellers. Memory supply is one source of pressure on hardware costs.

DDR4 memory price chart
DIAPOSITIVE 1 / 1DDR4 memory price chartThe displayed graph covers a desktop DDR4 kit, not RTX graphics memory.

The graph I show tracks the average price of a DDR4-3600 2 × 16 GB desktop memory kit. It illustrates a rise in that particular RAM market, not the price of the GDDR7 graphics memory used by the RTX 5090, so it does not establish the size of a GPU memory cost increase.

An older-generation possibility

He discusses a potential return to previous GPU generations. Huang’s comments were noncommittal.

Nvidia’s RTX 30, 40 and 50 series represent successive GPU generations. I discuss the possibility of reviving older models to ease shortages. At CES 2026, CEO Jensen Huang responded to a question by saying this was possible and suggested newer AI technology might be brought to some older GPUs, but he did not commit Nvidia to restarting production.
