Arrival in Kauai
Lazar and Baker discuss vlogging on their flight and arrive at an oceanfront condo. They visit beaches near Princeville.
We're going to Hawaii. Bart is excited but tired, and the small plane makes him nervous. As we film the journey, I ask whether he will start vlogging again. He says it takes a lot of work and can stop you appreciating the moment; I think it takes practice to film without pulling yourself or others out of it.
We've reached our condo in Kauai, and it's beautiful. We found the rental through a local site and paid a price I thought was good compared with hotels. There are two bedrooms, a living room and a kitchen, with views over the water and a pool. I wish we could stay a full week, but we have only three nights.
Our first stops are beaches and viewpoints around Princeville. I describe a favorite beach reached by a steep path: the descent looks a little dangerous, but the spot feels almost private once you arrive. We also joke about Bart's makeshift bar and stop for Sunday brunch with a view.
Beach stops and a wedding
The couple tries local drinks, chooses wedding clothes and travels to the ceremony. They encounter protected birds en route.
Another day at the beach comes with an uneven sunburn. Between beach stops, we visit a well-known cocktail lounge during the day because we keep missing it at night. We try its mai tais and joke about how strong the drinks are.
It's wedding day, and Bart has also released a new video. We debate his last-minute outfit: he brought a more formal suit for cooler weather, while I encourage him to wear a flamingo shirt if he has the confidence to pull it off. We joke about whether it would be appropriate if it were our own wedding.
The ceremony is on a golf course, and we travel across it by car rather than golf cart. On the way, we encounter protected birds identified as albatrosses and make room for them. At the ceremony, the officiant pronounces the couple married and introduces the newlyweds.
A last day by the water
After the wedding, they enjoy a beach massage and a final meal. Baker reflects on the trip as they prepare to leave.
The next day, Bart is still wearing the flamingo shirt. We have massages by the beach and one of our last meals overlooking Hanalei, including poke. It is hard to leave after such a short stay.
As we prepare to board another small plane, Bart jokes about being scared. I ask whether the visit lived up to his expectations. He says it was even better, and we finish the trip with one last meal.
