Investment and competition

Berman introduces Amazon’s investment and shares his opinion of Claude 3. He frames the deal as a competitive AI move.

Amazon has completed a $4 billion investment in Anthropic, the company behind Claude. In my experience and the benchmarks I have seen, Claude 3 performs strongly against GPT-4. That is my assessment at the time, not a permanent ranking across every task.

I see the investment as a competitive signal to Google, Microsoft and Apple. Amazon is positioning itself to participate in the AI market.
