A CEO’s assessment

Brand, product experience and growth.

In this December 2022 interview excerpt, Peloton CEO Barry McCarthy discusses what he sees as the company’s competitive advantages. His assessment reflects his role at the company and the business conditions at the time.

Asked about Peloton’s biggest advantage, McCarthy points to its brand, user experience and content. He acknowledges mistakes but argues that customers’ attachment to the product remained strong.

He also says the pandemic accelerated adoption and gave the business a scale and access to capital it might not otherwise have achieved. This is his retrospective interpretation, not proof that the same growth would continue.
