Grok-2 and FLUX.1

Berman reads the beta announcement and identifies its leaderboard alias. He discusses the FLUX.1 image model and its availability.

We now know that the mystery model sus-column-r was an early version of Grok-2. xAI announced the Grok-2 beta on August 13, 2024, describing improvements in chat, coding and reasoning. It also introduced Grok-2 mini as a smaller sibling.

The announcement says xAI was experimenting with Black Forest Labs' FLUX.1 text-to-image model to expand Grok's capabilities on X. I describe the model as completely open source and accessible to anyone. The variants differ: FLUX.1 schnell is available under Apache 2.0, while FLUX.1 dev uses non-commercial licensing, so the same permissions do not apply to every variant.

I welcome a competitive image model with available weights and begin to discuss uncensored output. The clip cuts off at that point; it does not establish a detailed account of moderation or unrestricted use.
