ZUSAMMENFASSUNG

In 30 Sekunden

In a November 2024 short, Matthew Berman says IBM invited him to New York to learn about Granite models, InstructLab and quantum computing. This is a preview of a longer video and provides few technical details.

  1. 1Granite modelsBerman describes small, open-weight models and a visit hosted by IBM.
  2. 2InstructLabHe introduces the tool for adding knowledge; the short does not explain its full training process.
  3. 3Quantum computingHe says the longer video also covers IBM’s quantum computing work.

Das Wichtigste

  1. IBM showed Berman its Granite model family during an invited visit.
  2. InstructLab is presented as a way to add knowledge to a model.
  3. The short also previews a discussion of quantum computing and AI.

A preview of the IBM visit

Berman briefly introduces three subjects covered in a longer video.

IBM invited me to New York to see its work in AI and quantum computing. The company showed me its Granite models, which I describe as small open-weight models that can run on devices, subject to model and hardware requirements.

I also preview InstructLab for adding knowledge to a model and a discussion of IBM’s quantum computing work. The short does not explain the implementation in detail; InstructLab’s workflow can include model training, so it should not be treated as categorically unrelated to fine-tuning. The linked longer video has more context.
